problem #21500 Laramie V8
- Automatic transmission
- 20,000 miles
When I bought the truck in July of 2014, Uconnect was being marketed as providing 'Integrated Uconnect速 Voice Command with Bluetooth速 Streaming Audio, hands-free calling and voice texting ...' It was not true.
Voice texting is a subscription service. I was cut off from service a year later and informed they want $15 a month to use 'voice texting' through my phone.
I asked before I purchased the truck about any needed subscriptions to use the basic features. The staff at the dealer went over the advertising and said I would not need to pay a monthly fee to use my phone, 'hands free.' In Washington State, the police can stop you and write a ticket for using your phone by hand. They said the subscriptions for were for other apps, like listening to Pandora while I drive or create a mobile hot spot for Wi-Fi.
I feel Ram (Dodge) lied. They used what is called a 'bait and switch' technique. The bait was 'hands free' phone use. They 'switched' it after a year of use to make sure I would pay an additional $15 a month ($150 a year) to use the text messaging system on my phone ... which I already pay for each month.
I see two options to solve this - restore the voice texting as a feature, as it was advertised or a lawsuit to force them to follow their advertising.

When I went to dealer to buy a new Dodge Ram 1500 Quadcab, I asked for three specific items.Dual exhaustDay/Night Rear View MirrorUconnect
We finally found one truck I really liked, but the salesperson said that the vehicle had a Uconnect radio in it, but not Bluetooth. After about five hours of looking and working out a price, I bought the truck less the day/night rear view mirror and the Uconnect.
Upon my arrival at home, I was in the process of putting some things into the storage bin under the rear seat when I saw something sticking out under the back of the seat. It was the window sticker, which upon close examination, showed Uconnect under the heading of Detailed Specifications'.I then called the salesperson and told him what I had found and he told me that it was indeed a Uconnect radio, but without the Bluetooth.
The radio in my vehicle is a plain SiriusXM 3.0, not a Uconnect as shown on the window sticker. I have copies of other similar trucks from different places that show the radio as a SiriusXM 3.0 I have now been told that they cannot install a true Uconnect radio. I was also told that Chrysler now calls all their radios Uconnect, which is absolutely misleading. I have done some legal research on this and Chrysler has indeed 'misused' the word Uconnect, which under the Consumer Protection Act is illegal and misrepresentation.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how to get Chrysler to rectify this without going to court?
